These typically friendly and curious being live in the Easternmost section of Terra Belli known as Meracle. Second in peacefulness only to the Gillmen, the Catfolk are extremely slow to resort to fighting to resolve their problems, having only fought other races twice. Catfolk have always remained to east in their small corner of the world. That is, until their population grew too large. Forced to either expand or be crushed under the weight of their own people the Catfolk began negotiating with the humans for more land.
But, the humans were stubborn and refused the Catfolk. Knowing that a full scale war with the Humans of Sapieto and Makoitsi wasn’t an option the Catfolk resigned to their fate for the most part. Others however took matters into their own hands and began attacking Sapieto territory directly against their leaders orders. Enraged by these assaults the humans began to prepare for battle. A full on war seemed imminent. But luck was on the Catfolks side. an enormous tsunami swept away much of Makoitsi and with it a large portion of the human army. As a show of good faith the humans ceded a large portion of their land to the Catfolk. It wasn’t until the Gillmen emerged from the sea that the Catfolk realized that they were being used as shield should the Gillmen, or rather their Aboleth masters, decided to attack. Before this issue could be brought up in a council the Half-Orcs exploded from their caves bringing nation wide war along with them. Among their later targets were the Catfolk for no apparent reason then for the fun of it.
Meracle is a serene country with forests and plains that stretch out all across the country and is surrounded on three sides by water. It was once much smaller than it currently is, Only after the Humans forfeited a large plot of land did Meracle grow to the size where it could accommodate the growing population. Meracle is also covered in fertile land and is adjacent to the sea making it a rich fishing spot.
The Catfolk tribes are governed by a single chief who is decided as the wisest. These chiefs all make up the council that controls all matters that regard the entire population.
The Catfolk are mistrusting of the Humans, Dwarves, and Gillmen, but their only genuine enemies are the Half-Orcs who attacked their homeland. they regard the other races with subdued curiosity.
