Gillmen

GillmenHistory
Once ordinary humans, the Gillmen of Makoitsi have been transformed into amphibious sea and land dwellers by their masters the Aboleths. Their land used to be a thriving peninsula that was attached to Sapieto. But, in the third century, a cataclysmic tsunami submerged much of Makoitsi leaving only a handful of survivors stranded on a tiny island. These select few were saved however by an unlikely friend. The Aboleths, gigantic, ancient, aquatic beasts, lured the survivors into the sea. There they were transformed and brainwashed by the Aboleths, turned into amphibious, humanoid slaves. They have remained relatively reclusive since that time, until a huamn ship sailed to Makoitsi intent on saving the Makotsians, only to be attacked by their aboleth controlled cousins. Hoping to protect themselves from this new species the human’s relinquished a large part of their territory to the Catfolk whom they had been quarreling with. While some Gillmen are given leave to enter Terra Belli by the Aboleths to obtain many or supplies not found in the sea, their appearances are rare.
Territory
The territory of the Gillmen appears to consist solely of a tiny island with almost no natural resources. But, the island is merely the tip of the iceberg. Used more as a way of getting to and from their real domain. The real Makoitsi is a deep network of underwater caves that house vast cities. Gillmen have become exceptionally good at underwater mining and are able to obtain almost all the necessary materials without every going to the surface.
Government
The Gillmen are at the mercy of their masters the Aboleths. The Aboleths rule over the Gillmen with iron fists, treating any act which contradicts them with cruel retribution. However, being born into this society and depending on the Aboleths for guidance has forced them to accept their tyranical overlords.
Relationship
Makoitsi are the only race without enemies. Even the Half-Orcs find that their often magical goods are well worth dealing with others. The Makoitsians typically never leave their home. They are often born and die without ever seeing the surface.
